June 7, 2016: CPIC Summer Fellowship Program National Launch!

June 8, 2016

We want to take a moment to say thank you to all of our alums and volunteers who made CPIC’s national summer program launch possible for our students!  We celebrated our June 7th national launch with a series of eight kickoff events across the country!   As of today, we have more than 120 students and 100 mentors from our alumni/ae network who are participating in this comprehensive summer experience!   In addition to receiving professional guidance from alums and our staff, all of our students will be participating in a 10-week pre-professional discussion series through Harvard's Canvas courseware, where they will learn about goal setting, building relationships, values and motivations for service, identity and context, mission statements, theories of change, understanding the role of stakeholders, and engaging communities.  As part of the Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship, students will also learn how their service work can be enhanced through academic and professional development.

The launch of our national program a tremendous step forward for CPIC and the future of public service at Harvard College.  The collective vision and wisdom of many people made our efforts possible.  We want to thank our donors, our inspiring professional staff at Phillips Brooks House and the Phillips Brooks House Association, our outstanding colleagues at Harvard who provide extensive support to students engaged in service (most notably the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Standing Committee on Public Service and National Advisory Board, Harvard Alumni Association, Institute of Politics, Office of Career Services, and Vice Provost for Advances in Leadership Research Team), and the scores of alums who have been volunteering with us for several years to make our national program launch possible.  Civic engagement is a critical component of a 21st century liberal arts education, and with your help, we are charging forward with an ambitious agenda that strives to fulfill Harvard College’s mission of supporting the intellectual, personal, and social transformation of our students to go forth and serve others.
